Revealed: The Most Unromantic Towns in the UK – Where Love Takes a Backseat on Valentine’s Day

Love might be in the air for most of the UK on Valentine’s Day, but some places seem to be giving Cupid the cold shoulder. We analysed user activity and compiled the findings into its FlirtFinder Index, revealing the UK’s least romantic towns—where online flirting takes a dramatic nosedive on February 14th.

By examining message activity on Valentine’s Day compared to the rest of the year, FlirtFinder found that certain areas saw a drop of over 90% in romantic messaging, proving that not everyone is feeling the love.

The UK’s Most Unromantic Towns – Ranked by the FlirtFinder Index

1. Gateshead – 94.9% drop

2. Pembrokeshire – 93.8% drop

3. Shropshire – 92% drop

4. Huntingdonshire – 91.7% drop

5. Hastings – 88.2% drop

6. Neath – 88% drop

7. Coleraine – 84.6% drop

8. Boston – 82.6% drop

9. Port Talbot – 81.8% drop

10. North Tyneside – 81.6% drop

11. Taunton – 81.1% drop

12. Blackpool – 79.2% drop

13. Salisbury – 77.5% drop

Gateshead: Not "Tyne-ing the Knot"?

Topping the list is Gateshead, where romance appears to be in short supply this Valentine’s Day. With a staggering 94.9% drop in message activity, it seems the good people of Gateshead aren’t Tyne-ing the knot just yet. And with the famous foghorns of the River Tyne failing to provide a dulcet serenade, lovebirds might be staying indoors rather than wooing their matches online.

Are Some Daters Already Taken?

Interestingly, the data also reveals that overall dating activity is 20% lower on Valentine’s Day compared to the week before. Could it be that some members who are usually active on the site have already found someone to celebrate with?

Look out for the UK Love hotspots, they will be published soon.
